2019 – Day 1: Strong competition, close fleets and steady winds
The four Baker siblings – sister Jesleine and brothers Philip, Jim and David – and crew power their J/30 “Just Add Water” to first place in the Distance Fleet at the end of day 1 of sailing.
CHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA (August 14, 2019) – While a weather front sitting off Tancook Island yesterday threatened to becalm the fleet today, the skies cleared, the sailors were enthusiastic and the wind picked up to 10-15 knots just in time to kick off Helly Hansen Chester Race Week 2019 with ideal on-the-water conditions.

CHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA (August 5, 2019) – Getting ready for what is likely the regatta’s longest unbroken competitive run, 73-year-old Halifax attorney Robert Cragg confirmed he is registered to skipper his 53rd consecutive regatta since his first in 1967. “I had to have my own boat – no one else would have me on theirs.”
Day 4: Fog and wet conditions don’t deter sailors on final day of racing
Toombs sails to Farr 30 title with perfect 10/10 1st-place finishes
CHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA (August 18, 2018) – After three nearly perfect sunny days, sailors brought out their foul weather gear for the fourth day of racing at Helly Hansen Chester Race Week 2018. Thick fog, swells and rains that varied from a sprinkling to torrential downpour didn’t dampen enthusiasm at the many start lines.

Day 3: Winds pick up, rain holds off, sailing veterans put experience to work
Veteran champion with MS returns to sailing in adapted J/100, sits in 1st place with sons
CHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA (August 17, 2018) – Sailors were keen to hit the courses with more wind and cooler temperatures on Day 3 of 2018 Helly Hansen Chester Race Week. Rain held off for another day, making for clear sailing for the 120 boats participating.
Day 2 light winds and heat drive races further offshore, test technical skills

CHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA (August 16, 2018) – After a long day on Wednesday, sailors arrived refreshed and ready for their second day of racing. Weather was calm and hot, with light winds, so race officers set the courses further offshore to find the most wind.
Day 1 boasts “Champagne” conditions, competitive fleets – 25 new skippers
CHESTER, NOVA SCOTIA (August 15, 2018) – The fog lifted and winds picked up just in time for 121 boats to start their races and kick off Chester Race Week 2018 in excellent form. Twenty five new skippers registered this year and boats came from as far away as Germany, New England, Ontario and Quebec which is a great bellwether for the future of keel boat racing. Many of the one design fleets were larger and more competitive than ever, especially the Bluenose class.
