Atlantic Yacht Sales Chester Race Week Results, Day 1
Chester, Nova Scotia – August 14, 2025 – The opening day of Atlantic Canada’s premier keelboat regatta, began under calm conditions, with glassy waters and light air delaying the action. By mid- afternoon, a light breeze filled in across Mahone Bay, setting the stage for competitive racing. Below are results from Day One on the water:
Bluenose Course – One Design Division
In the Bluenose fleet, Teazer (Connor Mraz, Brooklyn, NY) took first place, Reprobates and Ringers (Chris Megaffin, Chester, NS) took second while Fish ‘n Chips (Christian Luthi, Murder Point Sailing) took third.
One Design Racing – Farr 30
The Farr 30 class saw HeadFirst 2 (Peter Toombs, Charlottetown, PEI) sweep the day with two bullets. One More Time (Rob Gale, Halifax, NS) placed second, and Matador (Greg Blunden, Halifax, NS) finished third.
IOD Class
Storm (Peter Wickwire, Halifax, NS) took the top spot, followed by Enigma (Max Flinn, Halifax, NS) in second, and Restless (Ted Murphy, Mahone Bay, NS) in third.
Sonar Class
Ping (Andreas Josenhans, Lunenburg, NS) claimed first, with Echo (John Franklin, Mahone Bay, NS) second, and So Gnarly (Thomas Dauphinee, Lunenburg, NS) third.
PHRF A Division
In PHRF NS A1, Overdraft X (James Gogan, Halifax, NS) took the win ahead of Barchetta (Steve Davies, Halifax, NS) and Rampage (Graham Roy, Timberlea, NS).
In PHRF NS A2, Youngblood (Larry Creaser, Chester, NS) led the fleet, followed by Narwhal (David Roy, Bedford, NS) and DogParty (Terry McKenna, Charlottetown, PE).
PHRF B Division
PHRF NS B1 saw Poohsticks (Colin Mann, Second Peninsula, NS) in first, Painkiller (Paul Fillbe-Dexter, Halifax, NS) second, and Scotch Mist (Chris MacDonald, Halifax, NS) third.
In PHRF NS B2 (Sport Boats), Great White (Mitchell Horn, Marriotts Cove, NS) took top honours over Bangarang (Justin Bean, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay, NS) and Tetris (Graham Hart, Halifax, NS).
PHRF NS B3 results: Raido (Keith Davidson, Hubbards, NS) first, Just Add Water (Jesleine Baker, Halifax, NS) second, Dark Water (Donald K Walker, Dartmouth, NS) third.
PHRF NS B4 winners: King of Normandy (Francois Guitton, Halifax, NS), Dirty Blonde (Percy MacDonald, Brookside, NS), and Sting (Andrew Bell, Conquerall Bank, NS).
Pursuit Division
Pursuit A: Vagrant (Grant Gordon, Dartmouth, NS) led the way, with MacIntosh (Durk Steigenga, Blandford, NS) second and Gersemi (Paul Bezanson, Halifax, NS) third.
Pursuit B: Squall (Capt. Bradison Boutilier, Hubbards, NS) topped the standings, ahead of Second Lady (Steve Mallett, Dartmouth, NS) and To’Mater (Warren Webber, Bridgewater, NS).
Atlantic Yacht Sales Chester Race Week continues through the weekend, with more tight racing expected as crews battle for overall titles.
